We like our beer here @ the mardale inn, and this summer we will have three corking Cumbrian ales plus a northern 'guest' for you to choose from. They are: Coniston Bluebird (3.6%), Scafell Blonde (4.3%), Keswick Thirst Ascent (4.0%) plus northern award-winning ale Timothy Taylor's Landlord (4.2%).

As well as our fine draught ales, we also have 40 different bottled ales from 36 countries around the world, ranging from crisp Pilsners to the famous Trappiste ales from Belgium.  Please feel free to browse our list of ales below complete with our tasting notes - we're keen to know if you can add to them!

Belgian Trappist Rochefort 8 Trappist Ale These Trappist beers are rich, dense individual brews. Dry but rich with sweet tea and fig notes to complement the aromatic fullness. (330ml) 9.2  £  3.30
Belgian Bacchus Kriek Fruit Beer  Light and refreshing with a spritzy tartness. Cherry fruit is added to give an intensely fruity beer. Bottles are paper wrapped and in half champagne bottles. (375ml) 5.8  £  4.60
Brazil Palma Louca Lager Lager beer from Rio, Brazil, the carnival capital of the world. A typical, refreshing and smooth, Brazilian style lager. Palma Louca means 'Wild Palm'. (330ml) 4.5  £  2.20
Canada Sleeman Honey Brown Lager A refreshingly smooth, full-bodied lager. It is brewed in the tradition of cottage breweries at the turn of the century. (341ml) 5.2  £  2.70
Corsica Colomba White Beer A bottle conditioned unpasteurised white beer - naturally cloudy. Its flavour and aromas come from the native Corsican maquis or wild mountain greenery. (330ml) 5.0  £  3.20
Cyprus Keo Lager A pleasant lager style beer with a faint hop aroma. (300ml) 4.5  £   2.10
Czech Bohemia Regent Dark Export Lager An export lager, garnet in colour with a clean roasted malt flavour giving a full round bodied flavour. (500ml) 4.4  £   3.10
Finland Lapin Kulta Pils/Lager Lapin Kulta is the premium beer of Finland and has been brewed since 1873. It is made from the wild sparkling waters of Lapland. 330ml. 4.5  £   3.10
France Desperados Pils/Lager Desperados is a tequila and lime-flavoured beer which is very popular all over Europe. Desperados is not Mexican as many people think but is produced in France. (330ml) 5.9  £   2.50
Germany EKU 28 Eisbock This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. (300ml) 11.0  £  3.80
Germany Weltenburger Asam Bock Dark Beer A dark strong beer, full bodied in taste.  This beer retains plenty of mouth-watering flavours of toffee, toasted bread, plummy fruit and a certain marmalade tang. (500ml) 6.9  £   3.25
Greece Mythos Pils/Lager Mythos beer was launched in Greece in 1997 and has gone from strength to strength. It is a lager with a rich head, blonde colour and a pleasant refreshing taste. (330ml) 5.0  £  2.20

Jamaica Dragon Stout Stout The inky darkness of Dragon Stout is covered by a foamy head that disappears quickly. Malty perfume offers deep hints of mocha with a dash of soy sauce, backed by the firm promise of alcohol. (284ml) 7.5  £  2.80
Japan Asahi Black Dark Beer Japan’s favourite dark beer. Brewed in Osaka, Asahi Black is made from three different roasted malts. This gives it a rich, nutty flavour and makes it incredibly smooth-drinking. (330ml) 5.0  £  3.30
Laos Beer Lao Lager Brewed in Laos with hand picked indigenous rice varieties, spring water originating from the foothills of the Himalayas, Hallertau hops, German yeast and French malted barley. (330ml) 5.0  £  3.00
Mexico Dos Equis Amber American Dark Lager Dos Equis Amber is a rich, full-bodied Mexican import with a reddish-gold color and is made from the finest ingredients, representing the brand’s traditional Mexican heritage. (330ml) 4.5  £  2.60
Madeira Coral Pale Lager Coral is a great refreshing pale lager, brewed in Madeira, but now becoming more widely available. Definitely hits the spot! (330ml) 5.3  £  2.70
Mongolia Baadog Dark Beer Due to the difficult transport this beer is brewed under licence in the UK but reflects the full bodied rich dark character of the style of Mongolia. (330ml) 4.8  £  2.60
Netherlands La Trappe Quadrupel Abbey Beer A chestnut coloured brew - thick and sweet. First produced in 1991 as a one off beer. Now available regularly. (330ml) 10.0  £   4.25
New Zealand Steinlager Pale Lager Steinlager's clean, bold distinctive taste comes from the herbaceous character of the Green Bullet hops from New Zealand's south island. (330ml) 5.0  £   2.45
Peru Cusquena Pils/Lager Cusqueña (pronounced ‘kus-ken-ya’) is a lager-style beer, which claims to give no hangover because of its purity. It is made using Andean water at 18,000 feet. On the palate it is refreshing, crisp and has a real bit of bite. (330ml)  5.0  £   2.55
Poland Debowe Mochne European Strong Lager Debowe is an ideal strong beer whose virtues will certainly be appreciated by beer experts. It is distinguished by deep, essential taste and a beautiful, dark-gold colour. (500ml) 7.0  £   2.75

Russia Zhiguliiovskoye Pale Lager This premier Russian beer offers spicy hops on the nose, and is bittersweet and creamy to taste. It has a lingering malty sweetness. (500ml) 4.0  £  2.70
South Africa Castle Lager This is the ubiquitous beer of South Africa. It has a fresh and citrussy aroma, and tastes refreshing, light and zippy. It has a certain sweetness and very little hop character. (340ml) 5.0  £  2.70
Spain Alhambra Reserva Strong Lager This is a very striking package, with all information on the green bottle embossed onto the glass and no label as such. With a very slow fermentation for 57 days, it is definitely a premium beer. It has a full-textured taste with beautifully refined hop oil and chicory flavours making it clean and refreshing. Sweden Original Crocodile Lager Lager This light-coloured and light-bodied lager has a definite fruity note on the nose, with a gentle hoppiness. On the palate it is a touch bland, with some dry, lightly-fruity flavours. (330ml) 5.2  £  2.80
Thailand Singha Pils/Lager This deceptively powerful lager-type beer is brewed in Bangkok and has an overtly hoppy character, giving lots of bitter herbal flavours with a cut of lemony acidity. Fresh, yet substantial. (330ml) 6.0  £  2.60
Turkey Efes Pils/Lager Efes is the number one selling lager in Turkey and is exported to more than 40 countries around the world. It is an easy to drink, foamy bright lager beer. (330ml) 5.0  £   1.80
USA Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout Imperial Stout This is a sensational beer, tasting bitter and chocolatey, with burned toast and sweet black cherry playing against a lovely hoppy undertow and lots of solid plum and blackcurrant skin tang. This is a must taste beer if you can track it down. (355ml) 10.6  £  3.40
USA Flying Dog Snake Dog IPA IPA More cunning that a snake in the bush... This is the brewery's hop monster, and the citrus fruit aroma will hypontize the senses of the most hardcore of craft drinkers. (355ml) 5.6  £  3.30
Vietnam Saigon Pils/Lager This Vietnamese beer has a touch of sweetness at first, and then a kick of those more herbal hop notes come through, giving this a bit of bite. It finishes with some grapefruity bitterness in a fairly grown-up style. (355ml) 4.9  £  2.70
England Thomas Hardy's Ale Bottle conditioned ale Scarce, subtle and complex, Thomas Hardy’s Ale is the beer enthusiast’s equivalent of rare cognac.
